Coming into Town for the Inauguration? - Seva Blog

If you’re coming in town for President Obama’s inauguration Monday, Jan. 21, don’t cut your trip short! Seva Call is based in the Washington, DC area, and we know how to have fun in the capitol!

Here is a list of our 5 favorite things to do in the D.C. area!

1.     Visit the Smithsonian Museums and Zoo- Have you ever been told that only the air you breathe is free? Well, that’s not true! The Smithsonian Institution offers 19 museums, gardens, and galleries and the national zoological park for no cost. These museums are engaging and fun for the entire family to enjoy. Take a day or two to visit at least a few of the exhibits you’re most interested in and an IMAX movie. Smithsonian museums are DC’s treasures, so make sure to take advantage of them while you’re in town.

2.     Tour the National Monuments and Memorials- From the Lincoln Memorial to the Korean War Veteran’s Memorial, monuments and memorials are a must-see when visiting D.C.  A great way to see the monuments and memorials is to take a sightseeing tour. Our favorite way to view the monuments is at night when they’re lit up and less crowded.

3.     Shop and Walk in Georgetown- One of our favorite things to do in D.C. is walk along the cobblestone tree-lined streets of Georgetown along the Potomac River. Georgetown is a shopper’s and food lover’s paradise known for upscale shops, bars, restaurants, and cupcake bakeries. Even if you’re not planning on spending a lot of money, Georgetown is a beautiful place to walk and view the 200 year-old restored houses and their picturesque gardens.

4.     Enjoy the C & O Canal- The C & O Canal is a great place to walk your dog or take a hike with friends and family. Although hiking isn’t the only recreation the C & O Canal has to offer. There are 184 miles of scenic towpath that can be biked. Boating, kayaking, and horseback riding are also offered along the C & O canal.

5.      The Washington Monument- Although this is one of the most prominent tourist attractions in Washington D.C., all of us at Seva Call recommend going to the top at least once in your lifetime. An elevator takes you to the top where you are treated to the best view of Washington, DC, and can view your favorite monuments from a different perspective.

There are hundreds of other attractions that the United State’s capitol has to offer. Don’t be afraid to explore Washington D.C.’s Metrorail system, and wander around the city. So make your inauguration trip even more memorable!
